Top 10 Metropolitan Statistical Areas with Diagnoses of HIV in 2008

The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention’s 2008 HIV Surveillance Report indicated the following metropolitan statistical areas as the top 10 areas with diagnoses of HIV infection in 2008 (pp. 134-137).

  1. Miami, Fl
  2. Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, GA
  3. Memphis, TN-MS-AR
  4. Jacksonville, FL
  5. Baton Rouge, LA
  6. Orlando, FL
  7. New Orleans-Metairie-Kenner, LA
  8. New York, NY-NJ-PA
  9. Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord, NC-SC
  10. Jackson, MS

    Interesting that they are all on the east coast. In I wonder what is or isn’t happening in cities like Vegas/LA

    Please refer to the link in the blog entry and pages 134-137. Las Vegas is ranked # 18. The estimates were based on the states and territories with confidential name-based HIV infection reporting as of 2005. Los Angeles (well California to be exact) was not one of those cities/states as of 2005. All 50 states and territories are now participating in confidential name reporting.
